“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” ― Bill Bryson
With so much contained within its compact size, seeing a lot in a little time has never been more achievable than it is in Adelaide. Even a short visit to Adelaide offers everything from glistening beaches to chic cafes, winery tours and gorgeous day trips to country towns.
Henley is one of South Australia’s most beloved beaches. What’s more, it’s located just 10 minutes from the airport (and just 20 from the CBD). Go for a swim, admire the beach from the shoreline or take up a table at one of the neighbouring cafes and restaurants. There’s more than one way to spend a day at Henley Beach.
Hahndorf is another local gem. Just 30 minutes from central Adelaide, Hahndorf is Australia's oldest surviving German settlement. From gift shops to traditional German cuisine, you can enjoy a little bit of Germany just outside Adelaide.
A winery region is never far away. Take your pick! Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale are some of its most popular wine regions in South Australia and they serve up the best Shiraz in the country.
Adelaide might not be Australia’s most talked about city but perhaps it should be...
Standing in Rundle Mall on my first day in Adelaide, I realised the appeal of this sleepy South Australian city is not in how similar it is to other Australian capitals but in its differences. You will come to really appreciate this charming city for all of the glistening beaches, chic cafes, delightful day trips and sunshiny weather it has to offer.
